If you’re like most people, you probably have a password for your Kindle. But if you’re like me, you don’t always remember it. That’s where the password manager comes in. A password manager is a software application that helps you keep track of your passwords and other personal information. You can use it on your computer, or on your Kindle device. There are many different password managers available, but the one I recommend is called LastPass. It’s free and easy to use. Just enter your name, email address, and password into the application’s main screen, and it will create a secure vault for you to store all of your personal information. Once you’ve created a LastPass vault, you can easily add new passwords by clicking on the Add New Password button at the top of the LastPass main screen. You’ll be asked for your name, email address, and security code (if any). After entering these details, click on OK to add the new password to your vault. You can also use LastPass to manage all of your Kindle passwords by adding them to an Amazon Kindle bookmarks folder. Just add a bookmark with the name of the bookmarked page as well as its security code (if any) and lastpass will automatically add that bookmark to your lastpass vault when you open that bookmarked page in Amazon Kindle reader or other reading software.
If you are a private reader, don’t want your kids (or anyone else) having free access to your books, or otherwise want to password protect your Kindle, it’s really easy to do. Here’s how.
How to Set a Kindle PIN
On the Home Screen, tap the three little dots in the top-right corner.
Next, tap “Settings” in the menu that pops up.
Then, tap “Device Options.”
From the options, choose “Device Passcode.”
Enter a passcode between 1 and 12 digits long, enter it again to confirm it, and then tap “OK.”
Now, when you unlock your Kindle, you’ll be prompted to enter your passcode.
How to Turn Off or Change a Kindle Passcode
Go to Settings > Device Options > Device Passcode.
To stop using a passcode, tap “Turn Off Passcode,” enter your passcode, and then tap “OK.”
To change your passcode, tap “Change Passcode,” enter your current passcode, tap “OK,” and then enter and confirm a new passcode.
What Do I Do If I Forget My Kindle Passcode?
Since you can’t access any of the settings options, there’s a special way to reset a locked Kindle:
On a 6th Generation Kindle or newer, enter “111222777” as the passcode, and then tap “OK. ” On a 5th Generation Kindle, enter “resetmykindle” as the passcode, and then press the Enter key.
(If you aren’t sure, here’s how to tell what generation Kindle you own.)
